onewordpoem Formed in the winter of 2004, Lincoln three piece, onewordpoem have gained a considerable following for their eclectic mix of brooding melancholy and upbeat catchy songs. In the last year they have supported the Others, the Brakes, The Longcut, Shit Disco, Captain, New Rhodes and released their new E.P "Life In Sculpture" on November 27th available in Sonic Sounds - Lincoln or through mail order.

marlbro lightsdance floor fights, and every member with a different story. Intermarriage of it’s own uncle, sister, brother and son has allowed the city of Lincoln to let slip …theRAYS. A story of five guys united by a common vision- a vision so common it wears burbury scarves and drives a lowered, fluorescently lit Nova. A musical journey where nobody packed any travel sweets. Just JD. It is a saga of triumphs, tantrums and tamabourines. More than just a cheesy musical cliché: the influences, the mix of the mutual and the personal; a concentration of these factors goes into the creation of every tune and lyric that they produce. Gigs pound your eardrums with beats that leave you feeling like you really have just been hit by something significant.
The buzz built up at countless gigs created slavish demand to take their music out of the venues and keep it. The result was two recordings, an album and EP. Newly noticed by local and national radio, with a vibe that grabs your attention in a way even professional broadcasters can’t ignore, the band were big enough to draw the attention of promoters who felt they had the repertoire, scope and drive to support dirty pretty things and showcase Gibson to which they did to huge acclaim.
This they have done but more is to offer. With personal musical tastes ranging from Zeppelin to Kraftwerk, Beatles to Gershwin, theRAYS continue to write, record, practice, drink, and argue as much as they’ve ever done.
The band would like to thank everyone whose helped us out so far, Johnny "Baldy Bloke" McGuire, Dan & Howard at dB studios, Glenn "Pythagoras" Moore (professional legend), Gordon Reeve @ our home bar, Dogma, who more or less finance the recording, Sonic Sounds for stocking the CD's and everyone who keeps coming to our gigs. We must be doing something right! catch them Live at

DANTE FERRARA
Dante gave us a performance of his Finery and filth show
If you like your early music adventurous, ground-breaking and different, then look no further. Finery & Filth combines early music, spectacle and stand-up comedy. This show, set in 1695, takes the audience through a vivid and ribald tale of Restoration London. By the first 15 minutes they will have heard the hurdy gurdy, cittern, two songs by Henry Purcell and a song about a farting contest - all gems from the late 17th century!
dante has a fine talent and brought with him a selection of instruments including the lute and hurdy gurdy. The instruments used by Dante Ferrara are faithful copies of originals, made by luthiers of international repute. Attention to detail includes the correct glue, varnish and string materials. He now uses an antique hurdy-gurdy, better than museum quality and is probably the only player in the UK to do so.

THE HOOLEYS LIVE AT THE DRILL HALL WITH PINKnRUBY
SAT 16TH JUNE
PINKnRUBY
This unique acoustic duo have become darlings of the alt-festival scene over the last couple of years. Pinknruby have been responsible for many of those ‘Glastonbury moments' where you wander into a small and unknown café to be blown away by an act you'd never heard of with music you'd never conceived of. Combining lush ethereal sound-scapes with Eastern European melodies and a touch of Brazilian rhythm the pair have an on-stage charisma that few downbeat acts can match. Often appearing in fabulous costume replete with intricate face-painted masks watching Paul Bradbury (vocals, guitar) and Mihaela Repina (vocals, guitar) is a truly immersive and beautiful experience. A must for a sunny Sunday afternoon sat on the grass with friends or lovers.

DANA WYLIE BAND

|
Although the members of the Dana Wylie Band hail from rural areas on opposite sides of the Atlantic, it was in a bustling Asian metropolis where it had it’s first incarnation. The band’s music fully embraces both rural and urban influences, stretching from blues and soul, through jazz and cabaret, to roots and folk. Their unique style, featuring Dana’s powerful vocals and sparkling wit, accompanied by a variety of instruments, never fails to turn heads.
After several years of singing “other people’s words” as a music theatre actress, Dana turned her focus to writing and performing original material, moving to Asia for a quiet respite from Canada’s theatrical scene. In Taiwan, she was instead plunged into a lively music scene, playing solo at corporate functions, with David Chen’s Muddy Basin Ramblers, leading her own bluegrass outfit The Wylie Brothers, and forming the Dana Wylie Duo with Englishman Jeremy Hellard. Asked to comment on Dana’s demo, Jeremy had replied, “I’d like it better if I had played on it”, and the duo was born. A gifted drummer, guitarist, singer, and virtuosic harmonica player, Jeremy has a versatility and sensitivity that perfectly complements Dana’s piano and songwriting style. Dana and Jeremy moved to the U.K. in 2005, and immediately started gigging regularly, playing pubs, clubs, festivals, and community centres, including London’s legendary Jazz Café, and the Summer Sundae Weekender in Leicester. With their first year in the UK under their belts, the band has lots of projects and changes underway. They’ve released their first album, “Almost There…”, and they’ve added a fiddle player to the line-up. Zoe Moffat, a classically trained violinist from British Columbia, comes to the band straight from the aforementioned Taiwan ex-pat music scene, where she added to her classical chops a passion for whooping it up, country-style. She adds the missing piece and forms a bridge through the band’s varying styles. Plans for world domination are in the pipeline. |

Diverse repertory!

Graham is also a dab-hand at the five-string banjo ,which is one of the reasons why laura decided to lesrn Blugrasss mandolin. as a duo anything could happen,so Beware!....................................

we are pleased to welcome the Dust Collectors from Derby/Nottingham
Band Info
Sounds like..........like the house band of a victorian asylum in a David Lynch movie. Visually and sonically stunning, the Dust Collectors are a mix of the Cinematic Orchestra and Redsnapper, with a mad Victorian reciting his dark-assed poetry over the top. just amazing.
THE LEGENDARY ARTUR

Having started his musical carreer in 1977 at the height of the punk scene ,ex Lincoln resident Big arthur still plays all over the world with bands from that era namely THE LURKERS and 999 in his 5 years living in Lincoln Arthur had a punktry and western band together called THE BLAZING SADDLES,who got to the finals of the BBC run, write a song for Lincolnshire compitition ,penning the local hit,God and Chips about the born again christian fish and chipshop which is still there today.its called the sign of the fish if you wanna know. The band also played every saloon from Lincoln to the wash, every hootinanie you can imagine ripping the roof off of the joint
well Arthur made a big impact on the city in his time here, a big gentle giant nobody knew where Art came from just drifted into town like a tumbleweed rolled on out again leaving folk wanting more of his huge voice and presence.
Big hearted Art plays some Johnny Cash ,Creedence, rock roll, and some country oddities, like psycho, the california hippy murders, little known gems, and all done with a hugh helping of humour, anyone who's seen Art before will know what the big man can deliver, those who havnt are in for a whole mess o fun
at THE UPTOCOLLECTIVE on 18th November one Definatley not to miss be there or be somewhere else.
THE COLD KELD SET

THE COLD KELD SET
The Cold Keld Set
Came together after Phil and Rob jammed during a holiday at the cottage of 'COLD KELD' - the location is an isolated place in the east of Cumbria- surrounded by the largely undiscovered and beautiful fells which ring the Eden valley.
This environment inspired original songs such as the 'title tune' Cold Keld set and the interestingly named 'Badgers Arse'.
A fundraising recording of a few songs was named 'Off the Map'- reflecting the position of Cold Keld.
there is a strong 'roots' influence but no boundaries as to where these exist. For this reason the CKS are as likely to come up with a traditional British tune as a Britpop cover or self made song.
Now joined by Adam, they are trying out more harmonies and listeners will enjoy the fun and togetherness that their music brings.

Where rhythm meets the blues
A three piece outfit from Lincoln,Pete O' Brian (vocals and Double Bass),Egly Lucas (guitar and Vocals) and Sam Saunders (Drums)
I was just about to leave the building when i caught an earful of brilliant upright Bass thumping' and jumping excitedly out of the open portals of the mini muni. the place was full and the audience spilled out onto the entranceways and beyond-even those sat outside kept their ears cocked to hear the fabulous sound coming out onto the street. those of us lucky enough to inch our way in were treated to a tremendous fun packed session of over the top rocabilly, jump jive and bouncing blues.they were the slim-line papas and I tell you after that stonking great performance they were the talk of the festival thereafter!! i loved it and was not alone in that emotional enthusiasm for them either
